WestWorld is Shutting Down

Image
HBO has announced that WestWorld isn't getting a fourth and final season. Despite the creators, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, originally planned to end the series with a fourth and final season, HBO decided to cancel the show after the third season. But why?  The Hollywood Report reported that Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy inked a deal with Amazon for a few big budget shows. Also, ratings for the robot apocalypse show tanked after the third season. Linear ratings for the pricey series fell off sharply for its third season, and then dropped even further for season four. Westworld was known for its pricey, grand production. Lower ratings meant losses.  I'm crushed by this cancelation but I think it should've been cancelled 2 seasons ago. The climax at season 2 was so unparalleled, it was unrealistic to think that Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy could repeat it. Nevertheless, I have completed faith in their new projects like, The Peripheral .  L...

New Solo: A Star Wars Story Trailer

Image
A new trailer for the upcoming movie "Solo: A Star Wars Story" was released on the Star Wars Youtube channel and it got me thinking. Will we see Jabba The Hutt and Boba Fett?  If you don't who those two are, you will have to go back and watch Star Wars: "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi". These two Star Wars character seemed prevalent to Han Solos character. Without spoilers, previous to what happened at the end of "The Empires Strikes Back", leading into "Return of the Jedi" you get the feeling that these characters have a long history of dealing with one another. Though I haven't seen the infamous bounty hunter and the galactical gangster in the trailer of "Solo: A Star Wars Story", I'm hoping that we get some backstory. Take a look at the trailer below. Do you think we will get to see Jabba the Hutt and Boba Fett?

Movie Review: Annihilation. What Did I Just Watch?

Image
"Annihilation" , written and directed by Alex Garland, based on the novel written by Jeff VanderMeer. The film is about a biologist's husband disappears. She puts her name forward for an expedition into an environmental disaster zone but does not find what she's expecting. The expedition team is made up of the biologist, an anthropologist, a psychologist, a surveyor, and a linguist. Moviegoers will be just as the main antagonist (Natalie Portman), not finding what you're expecting. The trailer for this film and synopsis does nothing in explaining the meaning and purpose of this film. Nevertheless, I won't spoil that for you. Visually, this film was breathtaking. With beautiful scenery and wide-angle cinematography that'll make you feel like you're in a strange place, Annihilation does just that. Particularly, in a couple of scenes, you will be reminded of the creepy nature of what is called the "Shilling". The cast filmed with a great pe...

Trailer: Red Sparrow

Image
Image from 20th Century Fox The movie stars Jennifer Lawrence, Joel Edgerton, and Charlotte Rampling. The trailer was shown in theaters with Black Panther. I'll definitely be seeing this movie. In the latest movies I've seen starring Jennifer Lawrence, she has done no wrong. Including in her thriller, mind-bending role in  "Mother!" . The synopsis of "Red Sparrow" from IMDB explains the movie as the following: "Ballerina Dominika Egorova is recruited to 'Sparrow School' a Russian intelligence service where she is forced to use her body as a weapon. But her first mission, targeting a CIA agent, threatens to unravel the security of both nations." Director: Francis Lawrence Writers: Justin Haythe (screenplay), Jason Matthews (novel) In Theaters March 2, 2018.

Trailer: Deadpool 2

Image
Deadpool 2 hits theaters on May 18 and on Febuary 7th, 20th Century Fox released a full length trailer with an extremely weird summary. The synopsis says the following: After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.  In short, it looks like Deadpool is back with some new friends with more comedic action than before. I can already tell that this movie is going to be another hit. Watch the trailer below.

Movie Review: "Proud Mary". Not Too Proud Cast.

Image
Proud Mary, starring Taraji P. Henson as Mary, is about a hit woman working for an organized crime family in Boston, whose life is completely turned around when she meets a young boy whose path she crosses when a professional hit goes bad. Honestly, there isn't much going for this film. Particularly, the last act is the most entertaining in this entire movie. The plot has so many holes and the performances from everyone that isn't named Taraji P. Henson were unbelievable. As the plot moves in an incredibly predictable direction, the visual aesthetics felt rushed. Rushed to a climax that anyone could have seen coming. It's safe to say that this film was just a highlight reel of how dedicated and impressive Taraji P. is in her work. Going into the theater to see this film, the trailer set expectations that this was a mix between Atomic Blond and John Wick. Unfortunately, this film felt very low budget. If it were to have a longer run time and a better casting, this might...

Movie Review: "Mother!" Good but with so many questions.

Image
"Mother!", written and directed by Darren Aronofsky, is a fantastically puzzling film that has so many layers of understanding. I had to watch this movie twice as well as reading and watching two referencing the meaning of this film. Upon watching it the first time, it was incredibly hard to follow. Throughout the movie, my girlfriend and I were completely lost in each direction the film took. We both had our of separate theories of the film, but both of us were far off from the actual meaning of the story. Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem performed wonderfully as the two-man actors in the film. Prior to viewing this movie, I wasn’t too impressed with Jennifer Lawrence’s career. ”Mother!” changed that. Check this movie out when you have the time to sit back and fully pay attention to every moment and every scene. It’s a memorable film even after watching it on second viewing. I give ”Mother!” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️’s out of 5.
